Super Bowl Master Pack: Creative Super Bowl Ideas for Restaurants

Sara Detrik

Super Bowl Sunday can be a major cash cow for restaurants and bars, especially during COVID, if you know to take advantage of specialized promotion tactics. This weekend presents an opportunity to provide unique experiences for customers from the comfort of their homes or your current dining setups.

We’ve taken the liberty of creating a revenue-boosting master pack of promotion ideas for your business. Here’s how to make your restaurant the go-to for game day foods this Sunday.

Spice It Up On Social Media with Polls

Posting crave-worthy pictures of your menu items on social media is a great way to increase interest in your items and beckon the kind of saliva-induced ordering that you’re looking for. This weekend, be sure to snap some pictures of your most sought-after finger items like chicken wings, truffle fries, or even an elegant flatbread.

But also note that people are likely to be very active on their social profiles this Saturday and Sunday - sharing their game day food spreads or at-home tailgate setups. Take advantage of this activity by creating fun posts that your customers can actually engage with. A great way to do this is by creating ‘polls’ on, say, Instagram.

For example, you could ask the public ‘While you're chowing down on our famous nachos, which team will you be cheering on?’. Then, have the two poll options reflect the teams that are playing.

Rename Your Menu Items For a Fun Twist

There are many ways that your brand can get creative with its menu this Sunday.

If you’re not able to access new ingredients or don’t want the hassle of pulling new recipes, you can do something as simple as highlighting a few of the most popular finger foods and renaming them for the weekend. For example, buffalo wings could become ‘Tailgate Wings,’ or fries could be marketed as ‘Touch-Down Tots.’

Create A Specialty Menu

If you’ve got a few extra ingredients around in the kitchen, or the means to create a few new items, you may consider crafting some unique options for your Super Bowl menu.

One approach could be to offer good old American favorites like sliders, wings, multi-layer dips, and pizzas.

The Roost Super Bowl Menu

You may also consider creating more artistic menu items like melon and prosciutto bites or football-shaped treats. Keep in mind that most Super Bowl friendly items tend to be finger foods for easy carrying and maneuvering between the couch and the snack table.

Create an Exciting Dining Incentive

Crafting a new mini menu might not be within the scope of your Super Bowl capabilities, and that’s OK! You can still take advantage of the public hype after Sunday.

A great way to do this is by creating an anticipating promotion. For example, you could say that if one team wins, ‘Tacos’ (or any item from your menu) are within a “Buy 2, Get 1 Free” special, and if the other team wins, ‘Garlic Fries’ have a similar promotion.

This way, not only will you be leveraging the support of team fans, but you’ll also be building anticipation of your soon-to-be-released promotion after game day.

We recommend creating a few social posts for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to remind your customers.

Try an Alluring ‘Game Day Giveaway’

One way to boost check sizes on Sunday is to offer a giveaway incentive paired with larger orders.

Another idea might be to offer a free sampler flight of the favorite beers at your restaurant complete with any purchase of, for example, $60 or more.

Advertise Your Takeout and Delivery

If you offer takeout or delivery options, Friday and Saturday are key days to advertise. Even with COVID, people will likely still be gathering in their homes and trying to encapsulate the spirit of Super Bowl Sunday, however small, with a nice food spread.

If you do not already use an online ordering system like Bbot, you may want to look into it. Delivery fees can often be much smaller than with larger companies like DoorDash or UberEats, so you keep a larger percentage of the profit.

Our system also streamlines the process of ordering for your customers. They can easily visit your branded menu, select items, and pay all from their phones. Then, the orders are sent directly to you and your kitchen, and SMS notifications can be sent automatically to your customers when their orders are ready.

Letting customers know that you can quickly and inexpensively bring food right to them will likely be a big incentive for game day ordering.
